Youth Coalition

Any student who wants to work to change the opinions of their peers on alcohol, tobacco or prescription drugs is welcome to join our youth coalition.

CCDP uses the Dover Youth 2 Youth Empowerment Model.

We begin new coalition members with gifts and talents analyses, interest and personality surveys and assist them to gain understanding of dangers associated with drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

We then move students into “skill building” in the areas they expressed interest or scored highest on evaluations. This often looks like working with an older coalition member to gain needed skills for media interviews, engaging with community professionals who are experienced in subjects or skills, attending presentations, going to summer camps or trainings like TNSTRONG and Tennessee Teen Institute and more.

Lastly, they take action. Activities students have participated in throughout the past several years include planning and executing community events, providing peer-led education around tobacco and prescription drug misuse at health fairs, school and sports activities, Christmas Parades and more, planning and hosting a weeklong prevention camp, developing “Starters Never Start” and other media campaigns, hosting peaceful protests outside businesses whose policies don’t align with theirs, meeting with legislators and more.

Any student in middle or high school who lives, works, worships or enjoys recreation in Carter County is welcome to participate.

Our Youth Coalition meetings can be found on the CCDP Facebook page: or you are welcome to call our office for the next meeting date.
